A common question I hear all the time is, “How do I get my website listed on the first page of Google?” As great as that would be, it’s unfortunately not that simple. Building your page rank on the world’s most popular search engine is not exactly easy. It actually requires a lot of work. After all, if it were really that easy, then wouldn’t everybody’s website be listed toward the top? That’s just not realistic.
However, I have some good news for you… Climbing your way to the first page of Google is possible. It’s simply a matter of getting there. The process begins with letting Google know about your website’s existence. This is done by submitting what’s called a sitemap — a list of pages contained on your website for Google to crawl. The more content Google can crawl on your website, the larger presence you will have. Makes sense, right?
There are several ways to submit your website to Google. If you have a WordPress website, the fastest way is to use the Google XML Sitemaps plugin. It’s free and can be downloaded here. Once the plugin is installed, follow the instructions and your website will be submitted within just minutes.
Because Google is constantly crawling new websites, yours will not show up in search results right away. It will take a little bit of time. Rest assured, though, as your hard work will pay off in time.
